Father convicted of parental kidnapping. If this happens in New York, you need a New York Criminal Defense Lawyer.

It happens all too often. A parent, who does not have custody of their child, takes the child away from the other parent in hopes of keeping the child. Clark Rockefeller, who’s real name is Christian Karl Gerhartreiter, was convicted of kidnapping his 7 year old daughter. Gerhartreiter has supervised visitation rights and was visiting with his daughter in July. Reports claim Gerhartreiter snatched his daughter the day of his visit and left with her in an SUV. The driver drove away with the child’s social worker still holding the door. Baltimore police found Gerhartreiter and his daughter six days later in a new house that he had bought for the two of them. The child was not harmed and was released back into her mother’s custody. Gerhartreiter’s lawyers claimed the man was delusional. Trying to claim insanity, the lawyers projected a picture of man who was so delusional; he thought he was having telepathic conversations with his daughter who was asking him to save her from his ex wife. The jury did not believe it. They believed he planned the kidnapping; especially since he had even hired a driver for the SUV that he kidnapped his daughter in. Gerhartreiter was criminally convicted of kidnapping and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He now faces 4 to 5 years in a state prison.

If you have trouble with the law because of a crime of which you've been accused, consulting a NY Criminal Lawyer is a must. Not hiring a New York Criminal Attorney can leave at the mercy of the courts.

Metro Card scam will leave you needing A New York Criminal Defense Lawyer

NYC transit Authority is rushing to upgrade their Metro Card vending machines so scammers will not be able to get over on them. There are over 1,600 vending machines in subway stations alone. These machines take in more than $100 million dollars in cash a month, and almost 5% of that cash is counterfeit. That would be a total loss of $60 million a year if these machines were not replaced. The new machines will cost $3.3 million, a small price compared to the millions that can be lost. New York City Transit Authority has good reason to worry; the machine will give $6 change per transaction when buying a metro card. And buying at a vending machine is more convenient for criminals because there are no witnesses to report the fraudulent transaction. If you are being charged with a criminal offense, you need an aggressive New York Criminal Defense Lawyer to help you defend yourself and protect your legal rights. Our New York Criminal Defense Lawyers at Stephen Bilkis & Associates are knowledgeable in criminal defense strategies.

A New York Criminal Lawyer Could Assist Senator Monserrate

State Senator Hiram Monserrate, accused of beating up his
girlfriend and allegedly slashing her with a broken piece of glass in a fight in his apartment on December 19th during a fit of jealousy, was indicted on March 23rd on three counts of felony assault and three counts of misdemeanor assaults.
His girlfriend, Karla Giraldo, needed twenty stitches just above one of her eyes.

Though she first told hospital officials that Senator
Monserrate hit her; Ms. Giraldo later said that it was an accident.

Criminal Attorneys for Senator Monserrat want the video
tossed, saying that prosecutors "spliced" the hours-long surveillance tape footage into a six and a half minute tape, and can thus be very misleading. A demand has been filed in Court by Criminal Lawyers for the Senator to obtain the entire unedited tape.

If you or someone you know has been accused of a crime or has been indicted on charges of assault, you will need a smart and sharp NY Criminal Lawyer to represent you. Your case, like the Senator's, can be riddled with problems involving jurors, police tactics, or the handling of evidence. A New York Criminal Attorney can guide you through this maze.

UPPER EAST SIDE ART DEALER IS ACCUSED OF STEALING $88 MILLION. HE NEEDS A SERIOUS NY CRIMINAL ATTORNEY

The case against Lawrence B. Salander is underway. Prosecutors portrayed him as a master manipulator who operated out of a lavish gallery but cheated art collectors and artists of more than $88 million. Salander was arrested on Thursday with a 100-count indictment accusing him of grand larceny, falsifying business records, scheming to defraud investors, forging documents and perjury.

Sometimes he even sold the same painting to more than one buyer. Manhattan District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau said at a news conference: "Why sell it once when you can sell it three times?" One official said that the authorities believed Salander's take actually exceeded $100 million.

Salander allegedly used the money to finance an extravagant lifestyle as he tried to corner the market in Renaissance art at the Salander-O'Reilly Galleries on East 71st Street. The arrest came 17 months after the gallery was shut down and 16 months after Salander filed for bankruptcy.

To have a chance of avoiding conviction he needs a New York Criminal Attorney. Without a NY Criminal Lawyer he could face up to 25 years in prison on each of 13 counts of first-degree grand larceny and up to 15 years on each of 10 counts of second-degree grand larceny with additional time for other charges.

Salander was arrested at his multi-million dollar home in upstate Millbrook and was arraigned before Justice Michael J. Obus in State Supreme Court in Manhattan on Thursday. He was held in $1 million bail and will be forbidden to leave New York State. He is said to be pleading not guilty to the charges
