Woman is charged with child neglect after child takes painkillers

A 28-year-old woman was charged after leaving a child unsupervised for 12 hours. She was arrested early Monday morning, a New York Criminal Lawyer was told.

The woman from Pinellas Park, Florida, was watching a young child. She left the child by itself for 12 hours the day before; believes a reporter. It is unclear where the woman went that period of time. The sex of the child has not been confirmed.

When she returned home, she discovered the child unconscious. The child had thrown up several times during the 12 hours, a New York City Criminal Lawyer found in the police report. The woman called 911 while she tried to wake the child up.

Health officials were called to the house to help the child. When the child arrived at the hospital, tests were run. A blood test revealed to authorities that the child had taken oxycodone, a painkiller, while the 28-year-old woman was gone Sunday, indicated a study. Studies in New York and Westchester County concur with these findings.

Oxycodone is a strong painkiller that is used to treat moderate to severe pain. Little is known about the affects the painkillers has on children. It is unclear why the woman had the oxycodone in her home in the first place. Health records for the woman could not be obtained.

The woman is being held on charges of domestic child neglect that cause great bodily harm. The woman was in Pinellas County Jail on Monday. It is unclear where the child’s parents were when the incident occurred.

Florida Father Charged with Child Abuse after Pushing Infant Son

A man from Pensacola, Florida, is accused of pushing his 4-month-old son. The violence caused the child to suffer a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Bond for the man was set at $150,000.
The 20-year-old father, of the 200 block of Marigold Drive, was charged with three separate counts of aggravated child abuse when he was arrested last week and placed in the Escambia County Jail where he still remains.
The child was brought to a hospital by someone close to him, but the exact details of that are not available at the present time. According to an NYC Criminal Lawyer, the Sacred Heart Hospital contacted the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office when it was suspected that the child’s injuries were non-accidental.
Initially, the baby’s father told deputies investigating the circumstances of the incident that his infant son had regurgitated some food and he then became unresponsive. He later admitted that he had been sitting on the floor holding his son in his lap when his incessant crying frustrated him so much that he “pushed the infant backward causing the infant to hit his head on the floor."
A NYC Criminal Attorney reports that in America, children from every socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and religious circle suffer from this “hidden epidemic” known as child abuse. The educated as well as the uneducated parents have been known to abuse. In locations like New York City and Westchester County, Domestic Violence like this is treated as a serious crime.
The epidemic is so widespread that every 10 seconds, a report of child abuse is made which equates to more than 3 million child abuse reports annually. This number does not count the mulitple children listed. For example, in 2007 alone, of the more than 3 million reports made, over 5.8 million children were involved. In approximately 10.8% of those cases, physical abuse was alleged or proven. Sadly, almost five children die daily due to child abuse and more than 75% of them are younger than 4 years of age – too young to even begin to defend themselves.
Even though abuse is something no one wants to be a victim of, the cycle is almost impossible to stop. When dealing with abusers, studies have shown that many of them were abused themselves.

Charges of Domestic Violence Lead to Nicolas Cages’ Arrest

Nicolas Cage was recently arrested on suspected domestic violence and disturbing the peace. The famous movie actor faced charges in New Orleans, reported a Manhattan Criminal Lawyer. The charges stemmed from an incident at a tattoo parlor late Friday evening. The actor and his wife were involved commotion outside the establishment. It is possible that one or both of them were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

A witness reported that he was aware of the incident, but did not personally see any domestic violence. The tattoo shop where the incident took place did not have any further information about the incident for the public. The shop was avoiding any contact with the media but the shop and its employees were cooperating with police on the matter. In The Bronx and Westchester County, lawyers are asked to defend people accused of domestic violence and must do so with knowledge of the law in those areas.

Other witnesses that spoke to the media said that they felt the incident was not worthy of being headline news. The witnesses felt that while there certainly was a disturbance on Friday evening, the event was more of an argument than an arrest worthy incidence of domestic violence. There were several surveillance tapes from the store and nearby homes which will provide further evidence of the actual events that took place that evening, a Manhattan Criminal Lawyer explained.

Police records show that Nicolas Cage was released on a bond from jail. His court appearance is scheduled for later next month. Because of Nicolas Cage’s celebrity status, the case made national news and will be closely followed when he reports to court next month.

The case has moved further into the celebrity realm as the star of Dog The Bounty Hunter was the one who posted bail for Nicolas Cage. The TV star has told the media that he is acting solely in a professional capacity and not providing services to Cage in order to promote his show.

The case will be heavily influenced by the evidence provided by the tapes and eye witnesses, a Manhattan Criminal Lawyer said. As in many of these cases, it is possible that a deal will be reached with Cage before the scheduled court date.
