A local man was shot and the violence triggered a car accident. The victim, according to witnesses who spoke to a reporter, was standing outside of a local bar minding his own business when shots were fired. The shots came from the gun of an unknown assailant. The fusillade of gunshots resulted in the unsuspecting man being shot in the leg.

The shooting of the man outside the bar didn’t trigger the accident. That shooting was just the beginning of the gun violence.

The 31 year old man lay wounded on the street when a couple nearby ran into trouble. The man, a 28 year old, and the woman, a 25 year old, were sitting in a car parked on the side of the bar. When they heard shooting, they tried to get out of the area. They were leaving the scene at a high rate of speed when their vehicle struck another vehicle that was parked on the street, authorities reported to a local station.

After recovering from the sudden impact of hitting the parked car, the man and the woman emerged from the vehicle. They proceeded to flee on foot, running to the 100 block of a nearby street close to the crash scene. There they approached a residence; the fleeing woman had a facial cut and was bleeding. The homeowner they approached noticed the injury and called for an ambulance.

Emergency medical technicians arrived at the residence quickly. They were able to assist the gunshot victim who was nearby on the street, and the bleeding woman, taking them to the local hospital. In Manhattan and Queens gun possession is not tolerated.

Meanwhile, police responding to the call about shots being fired and the wounded man found shell casings on the sidewalk that ran along the south side of the drinking establishment. The weapon was not recovered and the investigation is continuing. There hasn’t been any public disclosure by authorities on the status of the investigation other than it is ongoing. It is not known if any suspects are in custody or the police are pursuing specific leads at this time.

Police have arrested the person they believe perpetrated a violent robbery on February 25, New York Criminal Lawyer has learned. The 32-year old male was taken into custody about a mile from where the crime took place and without incident a week later as he walked along a city street. The arresting officer stated that when the suspect saw the officer that he did attempt to hide his face, but made no attempt to flee from the officer. There is no charge of gun possession.
The robbery, which occurred at a local discount store, was both brutal and distressing, and the local community pulled together and contributed to the arrest. The robbery occurred at about 9:30am on the morning of February 25, when the suspect entered the market while posing as a customer. The robber then grabbed the purse that was flung across the shoulder of a 71-year old female customer. During the process of the suspect fleeing the scene the victim had fallen to the floor, which caused her to bruise her ribs and break her finger and kneecap. She remained in the hospital for several days due to her injuries, but is expected to make a full recovery. Police in The Bronx and Queens would act in a similar manner.
Police officials have told all that this is one instance where the community really pulled together. Pictures from surveillance video, eyewitness descriptions of the robber, and tips from the community all contributed to the arrest. This may be considered as normal behavior for most communities, but this particular community has, at least in the past, had the attitude that “snitches need stitches” that actually prohibits cooperation with the police. It is believed that the fact that the victim was a 71-year old woman was a factor that overcame these attitudes.
There have been other similar robberies in the area recently and police are investigating as to whether the suspect may have a connection to those as well. Another robbery, while unrelated to this one, occurred within 15-minutes of the robbery this suspect was involved in, but was about 30-miles away.
Solving this case has been a boon for both the police department and the community as this was a particularly brutal case due to the victim’s age and the fact that this crime occurred during broad daylight, sources told the New York Criminal Lawyer.

In Orem, Utah police were called to the scene when a man carrying a pistol and a rifle near a mall was spotted. Coming only a week after the Tucson shootings, Police responded quickly to the several 911 calls they received. They found the man walking down the street in front of the mall at the intersection of University Parkway and State Street.

Officers stated that when they found the man, he wasn’t pointing the guns at anyone. The guns were unloaded, and since he was not threatening anyone, it was determined he was not breaking the law, says the New York Criminal Lawyer. Otherwise, he would have been arrested for Gun Possession. In Queens and Manhattan, he might have been arrested.

Mall management asked that the man be removed from the property, however, and the police complied. A gun rights advocate stated that the property owners have every right to ask someone to leave their property, especially when they are business owners.

The same gun rights advocate went on to state how just because you can carry a gun openly in Utah does not mean you should. He went on to say that in this era of terrorism and multiple-victim shoots people tend to look more closely at people who chose to wear their gun in plain sight.

The Orem police have turned the case over to the city prosecutors for a possible charge of disorderly conduct. Officers said that the man’s actions caused disturbance to many people, states a Nassau County Criminal Lawyer. Gun rights advocates stated that although he was working within the constraints of the law, this man should expect to be questioned when being so blatant, and it’s not unrealistic to face possible penalties. He also stated that gun ownership rights should still be respected.

Police said that the people responsible for calling 911 were doing the right thing. They continue to encourage people to call 911 if they see a similar situation.
