Officers Shoot Knife-Wielding Man To Death

A man carrying a knife in Upper Manhattan was shot and killed by police after ignoring repeated demands to drop the weapon, sources told a New York Criminal Lawyer. He was even tasered to no effect.
The 24-year-old man pulled the Taser’s electric probes from his body, and two officers shot him nine times, police sources told a New York Criminal Lawyer. The man was pronounced dead at New York-Presbyterian/Allen hospital.
Police released a recording and transcript the night after the shooting took place of a 911 call in which the knife-wielding man threatened to kill police officers. When the 911 operator asked the man what his emergency was, he replied, “I want you to call the cops because I’m ready to kill.” “What?” replied the operator. The man continued. “I’m ready to kill some cops right now.”
He gave his address and then said, “I’ll be right here,” according to the transcript. Uniformed patrol officers responded to the call and found the man holding a black knife. He was told to drop it, but would not. A police sergeant fired the Taser, but the man kept advancing on the four officers who surrounded him, police sources told a New York Criminal Lawyer.
Two of the officers shot at the man nine times, striking him multiple times in the chest. A spokesman for the family told a New York Criminal Lawyer, “The family is very distraught. The mother saw her son being shot from her fourth-floor window. We know he does not have a pristine past. But we believe the police could have handled it differently.”
