Billionaire in Texas has trial delayed, but prosecutors say two years is too long

A Texas billionaire who is accused of running a Ponzi scheme and milking several investors for an excess of $7 million dollars before he was done has been granted a delay in his trial, stated a New York Criminal Lawyer. But prosecutors are up in arms because the man’s attorneys are asking for a two year delay, which is by all accounts a very long time.

Perhaps prosecutors are worried that by the time his trial finally gets underway, the intensity of his crime will have diminished and he will get a lesser sentence than if it happened right away. Perhaps that is just what the man’s legal counsel is hoping for. The man’s lawyers are now saying that he is mentally incompetent and is not able to stand trial at this time. Two years will give him enough time to sort out his issues and be able to represent himself in court.

The NY Criminal Lawyer reports that delaying the trial for two years could backfire if more evidence against the accused is found between now and then. Though it would be nice to be able to postpone the inevitable, as most of us are wont to do, it is really in the best interests of all involved to get this case over with as rapidly as possible. The New York Criminal Lawyer also admitted that it does no good to tie a case up in court for two years that could be effectively settled in less time.

Ex Tampa Bay QB busted for DUI

Shaun King, a former quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers football team has been apprehended for drunk driving, states a New York Criminal Lawyer. The sports figure was pulled over after police recognized that he was driving erratically. King refused to take the standard field sobriety tests requested by police. They arrested him for driving under the influence of alcohol, which is a misdemeanor.

The NYC Criminal Lawyer said that King was released on a $500 bond. Sports figures are often revered in the public sector. King played for the Buccaneers from 1999 to 2003, before going to the Arizona Cardinals in 2004. He retired from football after that year and is now a sports analyst and radio host.

It seems as if public figures are seeing an increase in DUI charges, according to Michael Green, the New York Criminal Lawyer, but the incidents are not actually increasing. Instead, the celebrity of an individual determines the level of interest in the story. Kings responsibility to himself and now, to his fans, is to take responsibility in this situation on refuse to drive drunk again.

Like many others, the New York City Criminal Lawyer realizes that people tend to emulate those they look up to. Anyone who is in the public eye is someone that holds other peoples respect. Unfortunately the gift of celebrity is often a curse, bringing with it a responsibility that some people do not appreciate or take seriously. No matter who you are, drinking and driving is a very dangerous and irresponsible endeavor, and the worst kind of celebrity is when you have killed yourself or someone else as a result of your lack of judgment. Luckily, Shaun King isn't getting that kind of press.

Six People Charged in Dog Fighting Incident

Dog fighting is a cruel and dangerous activity and it is highly illegal. In fact, it is illegal to even attend a dogfight, says a NY Criminal Lawyer. This bloody sport results in needless death and suffering for the animals who are forced to fight, and authorities are very quick to investigate any and all dog fighting claims immediately. Dog fighting is an underground activity that is rarely seen. Even though it is elusive, however, it happens everywhere.

Six people were recently charged with dog fighting in Maywood after authorities managed to stumble across one while they were coming to serve a search warrant for animal cruelty at a residence. The officers found two pit bulls engaged in brutal fighting and they also found a handful of people who were participating in the dogfight, according to reports by the New York Criminal Lawyer.

Workers from the Animal Welfare League separated and restrained the dogs and they were subsequently taken into custody where they were to receive veterinary care. One man was charged with dog fighting and five other individuals, including three women and two men, were charged and arrested for attending the dogfight, said the New York Criminal Lawyer.

Dog fighting is a dangerous activity not only to the animals who are involved, said the NYC Criminal Lawyer, but also for the people who are present. People who attend these events are generally not wholesome, good hearted people. Because of this, the attendees of a dogfight are often just as dangerous as the abused and frightened animals who are fighting for their life.

Grief-stricken Father loses his license after driving drunk and harassing 16-year-old

The stress of his son’s death may have caused a grieving father to go too far in a recent traffic incident, established New York Criminal Lawyers.

The distressed father, whose son was killed on his motorcycle last spring by a driver accused of running a red light, has temporarily lost his license after being charged with driving drunk, New York Criminal Lawyers explained.

After a field sobriety test and finally a blood test, the man’s blood alcohol level tested well beyond the legal limit, according to police reports.

The man was allegedly tailgating and harassing a 16-year-old girl, who filed a complaint at the police station shortly after the incident. After being arrested, the man claimed the 16-year-old girl ran the same red light as the driver, who killed his son, which led to his abnormal behavior.

The man’s license was suspended after he was charged with DUI and other offenses, according to New York City Criminal Lawyers. The grieving father did not enter a plea. Additional details are not available until further investigation is complete.

The driver, who killed the man’s son, had multiple repeat traffic violations before he was charged with running the red light. The unnecessary death led to a new state law cracking down on drivers with multiple traffic offenses.

Repeat offenders are given stronger sentences and heavier fines according to court records and traffic violations have gone down slightly since then.

The grieving father was not available for comment when reporters called his home for answers.

DUI Ends Night of Misfortune and Poor Judgment

A New York Criminal Lawyer reported last week on yet another example of how poor judgment and lack of morality are exacerbated by the intake of alcohol, as a 30 year old man from Scottsdale, AZ clearly showed by his lack of good decision making one night last December.

The New York Criminal Lawyer reported that the suspect was driving his vehicle under the influence of alcohol at 2 am on Tuesday night when he allegedly struck a woman with his vehicle. The victim had been standing at the rear of her parked car when she was hit. The suspect did not stop to assist the woman. Instead he fled the scene of the crime in his car. The woman was later reported to have suffered non life threatening injuries and was released from the hospital later on that night.

As if a hit and run accident isn't a bad enough judgment call for one night, reported the New York Criminal Lawyer, the suspect then proceeded to elude police in both a car chase and then again on foot after he was finally pulled over.

There comes a time in life when we need to take responsibility for our actions, and this suspect seems to have tested his limits in this regard. He is now in custody and awaiting his final punishment.

Why is it easy for some people to completely let go of morality in the face of adversity? How much does alcohol contribute to this decline in basic social tenets of respect for others? Even if there is fear of being caught, it seems like living with the knowledge of your failure to make it right would be the worst punishment of all.

Mistakes happen to all of us. A New York Criminal Attorney can help you live up to your mistakes by getting you tried fairly and respectfully. A highly skilled New York Criminal Lawyer can assist you in moving through the most challenging times in your life with understanding and clarity.

Actor Flees Scene of Accident

A former movie star and current TV star, one married to a former Miss America winner, has been charged with a crime. Police have charged him with fleeing the scene of an accident, a misdemeanor offense, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. The man had been driving along that day like it was any other day. Nice, sunny, pleasant, the kind of day that takes away one's cares and worries. The kind of day that one would never suspect would lead to an arrest by the police. Then it happened, a sudden, violent, world changing event. The actor rammed his car, likely on accident, into the back of another car, noted a New York Criminal Lawyer. It must be said that it is likely but uncertain because the actor left the scene of the accident before the police could arrive to determine exactly what had happened.

The actor says it was all an innocent misunderstanding, said a New York Criminal Lawyer. He says that he exchanged insurance information with the other driver and had been patiently waiting for several minutes when he felt that the police officers were never going to show up, noted a New York Criminal Lawyer. Feeling that he'd done nothing wrong the man then left and went home. But, because he ran away, because he didn't wait, because he refused to let the police investigate what happened, everything is now up in the air, reports a New York Criminal Lawyer. No one knows if he had been drinking, if he did this on purpose, or any of the circumstances surrounding the event.

Even minor car accidents can lead to police involvement and you have rights that need to be protected. Contact a New York Criminal Attorney today if you find yourself having to deal with the police.

Money Launderer brought to justice

It is a sad commentary on society today that a man can be convicted of a money-laundering scheme that resulted in clients being bilked out of hundreds of millions of dollars and that said scheme is just one of a string of such events to take place. Regardless, a Florida man was finally convicted and sentenced to fourteen years in jail for doing just that, said a New York Criminal Lawyer.

The man preyed on investors from all walks of life, a fact that was not lost on the judge when sentencing came around. The culprit argued that he was now elderly and sick and that prison would be too harsh for him, reports a New York Criminal Lawyer. The judge responded that his victims were also sick and old and that they would be forced to live the rest of their lives in destitution all because of this man's selfish acts of thievery. The man was ordered to return all of the money stolen but due to a lavish lifestyle little, if any, is expected to make its way back to the innocent victims whom the man robbed, said a New York Criminal Lawyer.

A lifetime of work for many was entrusted to the man. A lifetime of hard work, good will, and honest living was put in the hands of a man who didn't care, noted a New York Criminal Lawyer. A man who was happy to steal, rob, and plunder his clients, violating their trust and ruining their lives - all so he could had a few extra zeroes to his bank account. Lives were ruined so he could have money he'd never be able to spend.

Crime never pays and while so called "white collar" crimes may seem innocent lives are often destroyed and the penalties are severe. If you find yourself being charged with a crime of any sort contact a New York Criminal Attorney.

Manhattan Cyclist Claims Cop Pulled Gun on Him

Police are now investigating the allegations of a Manhattan bicyclist who claims an off-duty NYPD officer pointed a gun at him during a traffic altercation. The 36-year-old bicyclist and his attorney told a New York Criminal Lawyer that the bicyclist was questioned about the incident.
“The matter is being investigated,” an NYPD deputy commissioner told a New York Criminal Lawyer. He did not provide any further details at that time. The bicyclist, a salesman from the Lower East Side claims he was riding through Greenwich Village late one Saturday night when the cop’s black Volkswagen GTI came close to side-swiping him.
The bicyclist says he tipped on the driver’s side window to alert the driver he was there, but the driver continued to squeeze him off in traffic. So, the bicyclist dismounted and approached the car. “As he rolled his window down, he points a gun at my face,” the bicyclist said. “No words were exchanged. I was just too stunned.”
He said he followed on his bike as he called 911. The operator told him to go back to the scene of the incident and wait for cops to arrive. As he rode home, he saw the car parked near marked NYPD cars.“They surround the car with their guns drawn and he rolls down the window and must have shown them his badge because they all lower their weapons,” he told a NYC Criminal Lawyer.
It is a traumatic experience to be accused of a crime. You’ll need a New York Criminal Attorney in your corner to help you resolve your case. The best representation you can find is a New York Criminal Attorney.

Witness Barred in Terror Trial

A federal judge barred prosecutors on Wednesday from using a witness in the first trial of a former detainee of Guantanamo Bay, sources told a New York Criminal Lawyer. The decision has sparked further debate in the issue over whether terrorist detainees should be prosecuted in civilian court.
The trial of the alleged terrorist, charged with participating in the 1998 bombings of United States Embassies in East Africa, is seen by many as a test the Obama Administration’s determination to move other detainees to federal court and shut down Guantanamo.
The judge in charge of the case, from the United States District Court in Manhattan, has denied requests from the defense to dismiss the case because the defendant’s right to a speedy trial has been violated and due to accusations of torture.
As the trial was about to begin, the judge said he would not allow the witness to testify. He told New York Criminal Lawyers the government had already confirmed it had identified and located the witness by interrogating the defendant while he was in a secret overseas prison run by the Central Intelligence Agency.
The judge told a New York Criminal Lawyer that he was “acutely aware of the perilous nature of the world in which we live.” He continued on to say, “But the Constitution is the rock upon which our nation rests. We must follow it not only when it is convenient, but when fear and danger beckon in a different direction. To do less would diminish us and undermine the foundation upon which we stand.”
No matter who you are, or what crime you may have been accused to commit, your best resource is a NYC Criminal Lawyer. If you want your case brought to its best possible resolution, a New York Criminal Attorney is just the one you need on your side.

Hempstead Police Look for Hammering Suspect

A Long Island woman is now recovering from a vicious attack by a man with a hammer in July, reports a New York Criminal Lawyer. Police sources told New York Criminal Lawyers the attacker was a man the victim had hired to work for her as a handyman. She met him at a Home Depot store and brought him to her home on July 24, 2010 to do some work around the house.
The suspect fixed the victim’s toilet, but she said he did not do a satisfactory job. When she complained about it to the handyman, he allegedly grew angry with her and hit her with the hammer, leaving multiple fractures, police sources told a New York Criminal Lawyer.
Nassau County Police told a New York Criminal Lawyer the suspect fled after the attack. Police have been searching for him, but have been unable to arrest him at this time. The suspect may have more charges awaiting him, as well – authorities say his DNA may also link him to a rape case in Texas. The search is still ongoing and there is no further information regarding the case at this time.

Group Tries to Get More DWI Checkpoints in Texas

DWI drivers may have to a new effort to stop them in Texas, according to reports received by New York Criminal Lawyers. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is trying to get Texas lawmakers to set up DWI checkpoints in the Lone Star State.
New York Criminal Lawyers have uncovered a recent study that shows Texas s the leading state in the country for alcohol-related traffic deaths. The executive director for MADD wants Texas to join the other states in setting up DWI check points. There are 39 states that have sobriety checkpoints – Texas is one of the 11 states that has no such program.
“The point of a checkpoint isn’t to arrest more people, the point and the success behind one is the deterrence factor,” the director of MADD said to a New York Criminal Lawyer.
The evidence seems to point to checkpoints being a valid deterrent. The Centers for Disease Control sifted through 23 studies involving regular sobriety checkpoints and noted that the number of crashes dropped by 20% when checkpoints were involved.
MADD has been trying to get checkpoints in Texas for years, as has the district attorney, but some lawmakers fear it might lead to racial profiling.
Should you or a loved one be accused of breaking the law, a New York Criminal Attorney is available to assist you. Only through the efforts of a New York Criminal Attorney can you ensure your case will get the proper hearing and you will get the best representation possible.

ICE Shows Mercy in Deportation Cases

The head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, has instructed the agency’s legal offices to stop deporting certain foreign nationals who may in fact be eligible for a green card, a New York Criminal Lawyer has learned.
New York Criminal Lawyers and immigration activists say this is evidence that ICE is easing up on foreign nationals that would otherwise face deportation. This could affect possibly tens of thousands who may be married or related to a U.S. citizen or legal resident who has filed a petition for them. These immigrants cannot have any criminal convictions to be considered.
The assistant secretary of ICE told a New York Criminal Lawyer that the agency will drop procedures against anyone new eligible under the new guidelines. “Where there is an underlying application or petition and ICE determines … that a non-detained individual appears eligible for relief from removal, [its attorneys] should promptly move to dismiss proceedings,” the assistant secretary wrote to the agency’s principal legal advisor.
“Good for [the assistant secretary] and ICE,” an executive director of an immigrant advocacy agent told a New York Criminal Lawyer. “This is the kind of reform we need. Targeting those who intend to do harm while expediting cases of law-abiding immigrants is the best use of ICE’s precious resources and will save taxpayers money.”
The law can be complex and sometimes unforgiving. If you or a loved one ends up somehow on the wrong side of the law, you’ll want the expertise of a New York Criminal Attorney to help you unravel those complications. When a New York Criminal Attorney is on your side, you can be assured your case will reach a swift and fair resolution.

Man Who Claims to Be Royalty Actually Con Man, says a New York Criminal Lawyer

A silver-tongued grafter who claimed to be royalty had to suffer jail like any common citizen after being charged in a $7 million Ponzi scheme. The Manhattan financier had fled to North Carolina when he learned he was under investigation, prosecutors told a New York Criminal Lawyer. Dressed like a commoner in Nike running shorts and a T-shirt, he was brought back to Manhattan to face charges of grand larceny, forgery, and securities fraud. The financier pleaded “not guilty” and was held without bail.
“His scheme involved all manner of deceit. He lied about who he was, how he was managing his clients’ finances. And he even forged back documents to back up his bogus story,” a district attorney told a New York Criminal Lawyer. The financier told his victims his companies ran investments for the royal family of Belgium, which could trace its ancestry back to the 14th century.
“He has a drop of blue blood, a very, very distant drop. But he told some people his father, the prince, had abdicated the throne, and tha this firm managed the finances of the [royal family’s] holdings,” a source informed a New York Criminal Lawyer. “He even put the family crest on his business card.”
